System improvements, upgrades and projects

We are continuously working to maintain and improve the water system.  Some of the major projects we are currently working on involve the installation of new, or the replacement of existing, equipment and facilities needed to provide safe, reliable water service.

Little River Water Treatment Plant

Aquarion is constructing a new water treatment facility at their Bonnie Lane Wellfield off of Little River Road. Construction began in October 2025 and is expected to be completed in late summer of 2026. Currently the contractor has cleared the site, constructed the foundation footing, and is working on forming the foundation walls. Known as the Little River Water Treatment Plant, the new facility will help assure the delivery of reliable, high quality water service to the community. The new facility will provide water treatment for the two existing wells (Well 7A and Well 22A) and two mechanical duplicate wells (Well 7B and Well 22B) which are currently under construction. Well 7A was installed in 1950 and the existing water treatment plant was designed to treat the capacity of Well 7A alone. The new water treatment plant will allow for treatment of the full production capacity of the wellfield. The new water treatment plant will include improvements for chemical storage and handling, spill containment, worker safety and site security.
