PLYMOUTH, Mass. – June 20, 2023 – Aquarion Water Company today announced that the company’s purchase of Pinehills Water Company’s community water system in Plymouth, MA has been approved by the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities (DPU).  Upon closing, the Pinehills water system will be the largest acquisition by Aquarion outside of Connecticut in more than 20 years.

"We are delighted to soon welcome Pinehills customers to the Aquarion family,” said Donald Morrissey, President of Aquarion Water Company.   “This acquisition is an important step in our continued investment in Massachusetts.  Pinehills customers are joining more than three-quarters of a million people across New England who count on Aquarion for safe, high-quality drinking water and we look forward to serving them.”

Pinehills’ water system currently serves 2,700 customer connections in the Pinehills community, with an anticipated full build-out of approximately 3,100 customer connections upon completion of the community.

"As a community, Pinehills is an award-winning example of thoughtful planning,” said Deborah Sedares, President of Pinehills LLC.  “Aquarion, with its proven expertise and exemplary customer service, is a perfect fit to provide our community with quality water for decades to come.  We expect a seamless transition with no interruption in service and no change in rates for our residents and businesses.”

Aquarion continues to provide innovative solutions to water systems throughout New England, as many of these systems contend with increasingly complex and stringent regulations, staffing challenges, and the need for consistent investment in infrastructure.

The purchase price of the Pinehills system is $15 million.  Included in the purchase is all existing water infrastructure including water mains, hydrants, wells, treatment systems, pumping stations, and tanks.  Rates for water service will not change as a result of the acquisition.  The transaction is expected to close by the end of the third quarter of 2023.

Headquartered in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Aquarion provides regulated water services to 238,000 customers in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire.  Since 2011, Aquarion has purchased and integrated 87 water and sewer systems into its portfolio, strengthening the company’s ability to deliver high-quality and affordable service to communities throughout New England.
