Connecticut water utility recognized for providing a safe, caring, and respectful workplace

BRIDGEPORT, CONN. – September 8, 2021 – Aquarion Water Company, a public water supply company based in Connecticut, was recently honored by the American Water Works Association (AWWA) Connecticut Section with the organization’s 2020 Diversity and Inclusion Utility Award.

Each year, the AWWA Connecticut Section recognizes an individual, group, or organization that has established or maintained a diverse and inclusive environment that encourages and utilizes each team member’s unique talents.

Aquarion, a Top Workplace in Connecticut, is dedicated to upholding its core values of respect for coworkers and customers, responsiveness to each other's needs, responsibility to do the right thing, and reaching for excellence in everything it does.

Aquarion identified the following objectives to guide its diversity and inclusion efforts:

  • Diversity - Improve the representation of women and marginalized groups at all levels of the organization and integrate people with disabilities and veterans.
  • Inclusion - Create an inclusive work environment that fosters creativity and innovation and promotes colleague engagement.

  • Communications - Ensure that diversity and inclusion initiatives, actions, and results are transparent to all key stakeholders.

  • External Relations - Engage various external stakeholder groups that support and serve AWC's values and interests, including its diversity suppliers.

  • Accountability - Hold leadership accountable for diversity and inclusion goals and objectives.

  • Education - Implement training for managers and supervisors for them to possess diversity and inclusion competencies to lead and manage an engaged workforce.
