Boil Water Order Has Been Lifted By New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services

HAMPTON, NH – August 25, 2019 – Aquarion Water Company today announced the water in Hampton, North Hampton and Rye is safe to drink and the boil water order has been lifted by New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (DES). Test results of the two rounds of water samples collected on Friday and Saturday confirmed that the water is bacteria-free.

The boil water order was put into effect on Friday, August 23 after E.coli bacteria were detected in one of ten samples collected on Wednesday afternoon, August 21 in the Hampton system and reported by the lab on Friday, August 23. DES determined that a boil water order was necessary and Aquarion officials supported this decision out of an abundance of caution. The health and well-being of customers is Aquarion’s first priority.

Over the last several days, Aquarion mobilized a team from across it's New England operations to ensure safe water quality and to communicate with town and state officials, residents, restaurants, senior facilities, and other critical customers. A number of communication channels were utilized including reverse 911, email, social media, electronic billboards, radio, TV, newspaper, and door-to-door visits. Aquarion staff made hundreds of visits to its local customers, making sure they were informed and had their questions answered. Aquarion collaborated with town officials, police and fire departments to share vital information about the boil water order. Bottled water stations were also set up at Hampton and North Hampton fire stations for residents.

Aquarion is aware that some businesses have been adversely impacted by this boil water order. Businesses impacted by the boil water order can contact Aquarion at 1-800-732-9678.
