System improvements, upgrades and projects

We are continuously working to maintain and improve the water system.  Some of the major projects we are currently working on involve the installation of new, or the replacement of existing, equipment and facilities needed to provide safe, reliable water service.

Locke Road Main Replacement - Hampton

Jul 27, 2020 New Hampshire

Scope of Work

Replace approximately 3,000 feet of water main between High Street and Winnacunnet Road. The existing main is more than 60 years old and is made of asbestos-cement and cast-iron materials. Pipe material of this age and material is prone to leaks.

The old water mains are 6- and 8-inches in diameters and will be replaced with 12-inch ductile iron pipe for longer life and improved flow rates.

This project is being coordinated with a Town of Hampton sewer project, which will follow after the water main project.

Schedule

Construction began on the High Street end on June 23, and will proceed south towards Winnacunnet Road. Construction is projected to be completed by August 31.

Current Status

  • A pipe tee connecting the new main to the existing main on High Street was installed on June 25.
  • 1,350 feet of new main has been installed between High Street and Edgewood Drive. This section is complete and all service pipes to houses have been moved to the new main.
  • Another 400 feet of new main has been installed between Edgewood Drive and Wentworth Avenue. This section has passed pressure and bacteria tests, and transfer of service pipes between houses and the new main are in progress.
  • The remaining 1,250 feet of new main has been installed in the remaining section between Wentworth Avenue and Winnacunnet Road, and will undergo pressure and bacteria testing this week. Transfer of service pipes for the remaining houses is projected to be completed by mid-August.
