IT Business Analyst

FUNCTION OVERVIEW

The IT Business Analyst has a broad range of responsibility and serves as a product lead and owner for IT services and solutions that provide efficiency for our IT teams and business. A solid foundation of business systems analysis experience which includes requirements gathering, business process analysis, use case analysis, alternative analysis and documenting functional specifications is key to being successful in this role. Experience managing multiple projects through various aspects of the software development life cycle (SDLC) is also beneficial. The IT Business Analyst will examine the business needs, propose technology solutions and will interact extensively with external third party providers to fulfill break/fix incidents, enhancement requests and new projects/solutions. 

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop an understanding of Aquarion’s water utility business/functions and become proficient in the respective areas, products and services assigned to support
  • Analyze business needs and processes, gather and document detailed business requirements and analyze use cases to determine benefits and ROI of enhancement requests
  • Partner with business owners to determine prioritization of enhancements and product upgrades based on business, technology and regulatory requirements
  • Collect IT reporting requirements, evaluate viable solutions, and act as IT lead with 3rd party support provider for the BI platform
  • Review Statements of Work to determine cost and availability of external resources to provide services
  • Develop QA test plans, execute functional tests and ensure quality of deliverables/work products prior to user acceptance testing (UAT)
  • Lead UAT activities including creation and performance of test scripts, defect reporting, repair, retest and signoff
  • Work with project sponsors and stakeholders to document business cases and project charters for projects involving new technology implementations and enhancements to existing technologies
  • Determine project scope and processes for change control, stage gating, status reporting, issue management and user acceptance testing
  • Lead project teams to determine work effort, resource requirements and build project plans and schedules
  • Determine training requirements and alternatives and work with project sponsor and business owners to determine and execute training and change management approaches
  • Manage project activities according to plan, regularly engage service providers to review project progress, assist in identifying and mitigating roadblocks that could impact project schedule, scope and on time delivery
  • Follow IT standards to oversee transition of approved work products into production and monitor transition
  • Support both large enhancements and ongoing system maintenance work simultaneously. 
  • Assist the IT Applications Manager in prioritizing, planning, and managing projects related to the selection, acquisition, and implementation of IT solutions. Develop/maintain project schedules and status reports
  • Build knowledge of technical and industry trends to ensure continued growth
KNOW-HOW (Education, Experience, Certifications required, etc.)
  • 3+ years experience performing business systems analysis
  • 3+ years experience managing multiple projects
  • Project management knowledge and experience using waterfall and/or agile methodologies, e.g., PMI or Scrum
  • Associates degree or higher in IT or another technical discipline
  • Experience comprehending business processes, and documenting detailed business/systems requirements and functional/technical specifications.
  • Experience illustrating technology use-cases, charting process flows (current, future) and ability to understand the impact of technical solutions on workflows
  • Experience evaluating, rationalizing and selecting IT solutions that support the business case; to assess viable solutions/options
  • Knowledge of software development life-cycle (SDLC), database systems, & infrastructure technologies preferred
  • Experience partnering with external 3rd party service providers
  • Strong emphasis on excellent customer service
  • Ability to align short term needs with the IT long term roadmap
  • Provides management with accurate and timely status updates
  • Demonstrates being resourceful, versatile, and has the ability to multitask and adjust priorities
  • Utility industry experience preferred
