Watershed Maintenance Internship Opportunity

Job Description

Aquarion Water Company of CT, the largest investor-owned water company in New England, has an opening for a Watershed Maintenance Intern in the Watershed and Environmental Management Department. The Watershed Maintenance intern will work alongside the Watershed Maintenance Technician and will be responsible for the following: 

  • The mowing of reservoir dam slopes, which includes mowing by tractor and hand trimming using string trimmers and brush cutters
  • The application of algaecide to various reservoirs using boats and outboard motors
  • The mowing of various facilities; tank sites, well fields, treatment plants, pipelines, using tractor mounted mowers, string trimmers and brush cutters
  • The maintenance of forest access roads which includes the clean out of drainage culverts and the removal of wind damaged trees.
Requirements of Applicant
  • Must be 18 years old
  • Must have a driver’s license
  • Must be willing to obtain the State of Connecticut’s Pesticide Applicator’s Certification
  • Must be able to drive pick up trucks along with towing boat trailers and equipment trailers
  • Must be willing to obtain the State of Connecticut’s Safe Boat Operator Certification
  • Must be available to work Monday through Friday, 7:00 A.M. to 3:30 P.M. (40 hours per week)
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
  • Must be willing to work outdoors in the heat and full sun
  • Will be exposed to poison ivy and occasional hornet stings
  • Must have a high school degree
