2012 Aquarion Environmental Champion Awards

Environmental Award Program Returns!

In keeping with Aquarion’s long-standing commitment to environmental quality and appreciation for volunteer efforts, last year we launched the Aquarion Environmental Champion Awards program. Dozens of nominations came in, and we honored four of the most outstanding volunteer projects for their contributions to improving Connecticut’s water, air, soils and wildlife habitat.

Adult, business and non-profit winners will be given a $2500 grant to pass on to the environmental non-profit of their choice. Students will receive a $1000 savings bond.

We’ll announce the winners on June 2 at a special event at Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo, in Bridgeport. Senator Richard Blumenthal will be on hand to honor the winners, as will Commissioner Daniel Esty from the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection and John DeAugustine, Group Publisher of Hearst Media Services of Connecticut.

“We’re delighted to again be turning the spotlight on environmental volunteers,” noted Chuck Firlotte, Aquarion CEO. “Every day, Aquarion provides clean and safe water to more than 590,000 people in Connecticut. As you can imagine, that gives us a very special appreciation for any work aimed at improving the environment.”

The nomination period has closed for the 2012 Aquarion Environmental Champion Awards. Check back after June 2 to learn all about the award winners.
